Investigating the role of NR4A nuclear receptors in melanocyte function and malignancy (2008–2009)

Abstract:
Individuals with fair skin and red hair have a considerably greater risk of developing melanoma and skin cancer. Understanding the relationship that genes such as MC1R and the NR4As have to skin functions such as tanning and protection from sun damage, which is directly linked to melanoma, will provide a greater understanding of individual susceptibility of melanoma and will help identify new therapeutic targets for melanoma treatment.
