Overview

Dr Yuanshen Lu started his current position at UQ as a DECRA Fellow and lecturer in Sep 2019. Prior to that, he was a lecturer in mechanical engineering at Griffith University following a few years’ postdoc experience at UQ. He received his PhD degree in 2015. Dr Lu's current research interests span thermodynamics, heat & mass transfer, fluid mechanics and mechatronics. He has extensive engagement with local industries and has successfully delivered multiple research projects for sectors including thermal power generation/power plants, coal seam gas, geothermal heat pumps, concentrated solar thermal energy, wind turbines, etc. He is particularly passionate about innovations in energy conversion efficiency and energy savings for a variety of renewable applications.

  • Fluid mechanics, Natural convection & turbulence
    Viscous flows, plumes, natural draft, boundary layer flows, vortices; CFD, wind tunnel tests, and advanced flow visualization techniques
  • Renewable energy systems
    Wind, concentrated solar thermal, geothermal, tidal energies, renewable-based hydrogen
  • Mechatronics
    Sensors and instrumentation, synchronous generator, and electric conditioning & control
