Overview

Dr Stjepanović is a senior research fellow at the National Centre for Youth Substance Use Research (NCYSUR). His work focusses on how drug use patterns are changing, particularly as a consequence of public policy. This includes, for example, understanding who vapes cannabis, if psychedelics are being used to self-treat physical and psychiatric symptoms, and what the effect psychedelic microdosing has. Additionally, he is interested in using experimental methods to understand substance use, leveraging his background in experimental psychology and cognitive neuroscience.

Available Projects

  • This project will expand the ITC Youth and Young Adult Tobacco and Vaping Survey to Australia. To date, this project has only collected data in the United States, Canada and England. The project seeks to increase our understanding of the factors that predict uptake among young people and to understand what policy measures influence smoking and vaping prevalence and patterns of use.

This project will integrate with two other data sources to form a nicotine use monitoring system for Australia. In addition to conference presentations and journal articles, this project will include the opportunity to prepare briefings to government.

There will also be an opportunity to further develop skills through work with other researchers based at UQ, and national and international collaborators.
